Today’s topic: Consistent Messaging Wins Big Deals — When the Salesperson Leads at the Highest Level
Stop Letting Miscommunication Cost You the Win
Every time your team sends mixed signals to a customer, you lose trust and open the door for your competitors to win. The bigger and more complex the sale, the greater the risk when everyone is not delivering the same message.
Why it matters:
When you have a team of people working together to win a customer’s business, it is critical that everyone is delivering consistent information. Throughout my sales and sales leadership career, I have worked on many large dollar and complex sales that required people from many departments within my company. Many also included resellers and systems integrators. The salesperson is the field commander. The sales manager is the liaison to do everything needed to support the field team. The only way this ever succeeds is with quality communication every day. This is much easier said than done.
The real problem:
Highly complex sales can take a very long time to close. As an example, I had one that took five years, another that took three years, and another that took two years. All three were wins in the end. They did not go smoothly all the time and they were very competitive in nature. The competitors knew what they were doing and they wanted to win as much as we did. When we ran into problems, many times it was related to miscommunication. When mixed messages reached the customer, it was a real mess.
The fix:
When everybody was on the same page and communicating clearly and on time, that same customer was impressed and had great confidence in us and our ability to deliver on our promises. The ultimate responsibility lies with the salesperson to lead and make sure everyone stays aligned.
BeenThere Story:
I have seen this scenario play out more times than I can count. When miscommunication happens, trust erodes and deals fall apart. When clear communication happens every day, big opportunities stay on track and close.
My BeenThere Edge for you:
A team delivering one message will always beat a team delivering mixed ones. Good sales leadership makes sure the entire team is aligned every day no matter how long the sale takes.
Ready to Fix It?
If your team is delivering mixed messages to your customers, you are giving your competitors an open door. Let’s fix it now. Strong communication and alignment will win you more deals, even the big ones.
