Wait! Before you send me an email saying, “Hey Phil, you used the wrong word in your title. It should be right.” Keep reading. It will make sense.

Does your business have many competitors? If you are an insurance agent you may have competitors in your own area that sell exactly what you do, at exactly the same price, and maybe even from the company. How do you differentiate yourself? Stay tuned, a great answer is to come.

I was recently at a business networking event where there were no less than six financial planners, two realtors, and several marketing companies. In their respective businesses, they are all the best, they focus on the customers, and they listen to what their customers want. Have they differentiated themselves from everyone else?

I am still waiting for someone to say, “We are the worst company. I am the worst salesperson. I don’t listen to anyone. If you hire my company, we will probably put you out of business.” That would certainly differentiate that person from everyone else. Probably not in a profitable way.

As a sales coach, I specialize in working with businesses and salespeople, coaching them on how to differentiate themselves.

If you really want to stand out, write a book. Not just any book. Write your book. I see another email coming my way. “Phil, how will that help differentiate me and my business?” This is where it gets good.

Writing your book is a fantastic way to differentiate yourself from all others that do what you do. This is a great start. However, it is the quality of every aspect of your book which gives you credibility as an expert in your field and as an author. How do you ensure your book meets these high standards?

When I launched BeenThere Consulting Services, LLC https://BeenThereCS.com, my sales coaching company, I was one of many business coaches. Because I am niched as a sales coach, I had some differentiation. I was fortunate in having a successful start to my new business. When I announced my soon to be published book, Handling Objections – Clues for closing the sale, Wow! What a response.

The book will be published in September 2024. Just the announcement has created a buzz and opened opportunities for my sales coaching company. I already have pre-order requests, invitations to appear on podcasts, workshops being scheduled by clients, and speaking requests. My book has differentiated me from others in a very positive way.

Important information: Anybody can write a book.  If you want your book to be successful, it must be professional in every way. From the title creation, content, formatting, publishing, marketing, and so much more. Every detail is important. There are so many details to consider, it is almost impossible to anticipate them all. To do it in such a way to achieve your reason for writing the book, you must do it with professional guidance. This is the only way.

Notice I used the word investment. Paying your electric bill is a cost. Buying toilet paper is a cost. Doing what is important to grow your business and put you on your path to achieving your lifelong goals is an investment.
